Haunted history: Take a ghost tour around southwestern Nova Scotia

This folklore has been passed through generations. Join us this week for a series of stories that look through our spooky past and take a ghost tour through our corner of Nova Scotia.

The photograph that started the urban legend of Myrtle the ghost in Clark’s Harbour hangs in the Seaside Heritage Centre. While it is a reproduction of the original, the little girl in the centre doesn’t cast a shadow in that one either.

Long-time New Minas resident Glenda Bishop looks out to Commercial Street, where she saw a forerunner prior to her father’s death in 1975.

Tim MacKinnon has been a gravedigger at Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery for 22 years. One of his strangest episodes on the property involved a black cat. MacKinnon builds Halloween props in his spare time, including the comfortable coffin he’s sitting on.

A small red shed stands at the edge of the Bay of Fundy at Anderson Cove – at the end of Hillsburn Road. “Anderson Cove & Ghost of Miss Anderson,” says a sign. Nothing else. It used to be a thriving place, back in Miss Anderson’s day. She was in love with a fisherman, or so the story goes.

“Sometimes, people say they see her or hear her.” Miss Anderson – a bride of the sea, her husband and her own life taken by the ferocious Fundy Tides. Now she haunts the fish plant near where she lived.
