WEST PUBNICO, N.S. — Le Village Historique Acadien de la Nouvelle-Écosse – the Historic Acadian Village of Nova Scotia – recently opened for the season and is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

The Village is a live museum that offers a glimpse into life in the early 1900s.

Executive director Richard Larin says visitors enjoy the informative and bilingual interpreters in period costumes.

“They offer historical information and entertaining stories,” he said.

“The site also has trails with beautiful views of the harbour and neighbouring islands, farm animals and picnic areas, as well as a café and gift shop.”

A number of special events are organized for the young and young-at-heart throughout the season, he says.

Program director Kathy Nickerson says descriptions and dates of the many festivals and special events happening at Le Village can be viewed on the website, or on the property’s social media sites.

“For this year’s 20th anniversary, we’ll have a photo slideshow presenting highlights of our 20 years, as well as a special celebration with food and music on Friday Aug. 2,” she said.

The Historic Acadian Village of Nova Scotia, a part of Nova Scotia Museum, is also part of the Discover Acadie/Acadian Passport initiative (discoveracadie.com), a group of eight sites in Southwestern Nova Scotia with links to Acadian history and culture.

Pubnico has several other attractions, including windmill walking trails, a large commercial wharf, the Acadian Museum and Archives and several popular restaurants.
