YARMOUTH - Thousands of tons of lobster are now being landed in the region – fresh for cooking in creative ways.

Coinciding with that abundance is the Dec. 8-22 Lobster Splash. Now in its seventh year, the event started in Yarmouth celebrates the lobster season by encouraging chefs to create new and unique dishes highlighting the versatile crustacean.

Organizer Madeleine Daues says this is the first year she contacted restaurant owners and managers to have them immediately say, “is it that time of year already? OK, we’ll make such and such.”

Although some of the restaurants that participated in the past won’t be doing so this year, many more new establishments have opened since last year.

“I’m very pleased with the number of participants and all the new restaurants,” said Daues.

Posters for the event are being distributed to retailers and banks in town to help with promotion.
