WINDSOR, N.S. — A panel of judges meandered around Windsor on Dec. 16 to pick their favourite residential Christmas decorations.
The judges were looking for traditional and family fun.
Julia Dooley and her husband Patrick were completely surprised when they learned that they had won first place in the traditional category.
“We put on what we do pretty much every year. We’re very simplistic, a few fresh boughs, some bows, some lights, some candles in the window and that’s about it,” Dooley said.
“We don’t go in for a lot of decorations,” she said.
Their home is located at 34 River St.
“I just think that Christmas is about simplicity and the beauty, it’s about family and lights,” she added.
Dooley said she didn’t quite believe it when she learned they had won, saying this was the first year they’ve won for their decorations.
“We just decorate for ourselves and our family, but to be honest I had forgotten they do this,” she said with a laugh. “I think it’s wonderful that everyone who can decorate does. The town looks very nice this year.”
The top prize for traditional Christmas decorating is a $200 gift card sponsored by Windsor Home Furniture.
The second place prize went to Jennifer Acuna, who decked out her home at 524 Wilson St. She received a $50 gift certificate to a downtown Windsor merchant, as sponsored by the Windsor Business Enhancement Society.
In the family fun category, Rob and Dawn Lowe’s abode at 6 Sunnyhill Dr. took home the honours. They received a one-hour skating party at the Hants Exhibition Arena. This prize was sponsored by the Town of Windsor.
