MIDDLETON - Annapolis District RCMP fielded a lot of calls from Oct. 9 to Oct. 16, with a number of assaults topping the list. But there were numerous mischief calls, car accidents, a break-and-enter in progress, and fraud.
Police have also seized a pumpkin for forensic purposes.
In total, police answered 105 calls during the week. Following are some of the highlights:

-- Oct. 9 at 9:14 a.m. at Paradise. Police received a call about a traffic hazard on Leonard Road. Police were told there were two cows on the road. Police located the cows and were able to convince them to return to their property. The cows had escaped through section of electric fence that had fallen down. Police temporarily repaired the fence and advised the property owner.
-- Oct. 9 at 2:09 p.m. at Middleton. Police received a mischief call at the elementary school where a window had been smashed. Police arrived on the scene to discover a pumpkin had been thrown through the glass. Police have entered into an investigation and neighbourhood inquiries have been conducted. Police will be reviewing videotape. The pumpkin has been seized of forensic purposes.
-- Oct. 9 at 9:21 p.m. at Nictaux. Policed received a complaint of suspicious activity. A caller reported there were a couple of vehicles driving around the neighbourhood. Police patrolled and located one of the suspect vehicles -- which belonged to one of the residents of the neighbourhood who was out looking for the suspect vehicles. The person provided a description and plate number for one of the vehicles. Police were able to contact the owner to advise them of the complaint.
-- Oct. 10 at 9:20 a.m. at Bear River. Police received a 911 call that was a misdial. Police patrolled and discovered the person was trying to call 411. There was no issue at the residence. There were four similar calls throughout the week. Police respond to all 911 calls.
-- Oct. 10 at 9:30 a.m. at Mount Rose. Police received a complaint of mischief where someone had damaged a personal bus shelter. Police went to the scene and learned from the complainant that a door had been ripped off the shelter on her property.
-- Oct. 10 at 10:15 a.m. at Lequille. Police have charged a 30-year-old man with speeding on Highway 101. If found guilty the driver will pay a fine of $237.50. There were 12 other speeding violations during the week.
-- Oct. 10 at 11:44 a.m. at Bridgetown. Police received a complaint of damage to a local service club building. Police learned that someone had broken windows at the Legion over the weekend. The person or persons threw rocks through several windows. Police went to the scene and are investigating.
-- Oct. 10 at 12:15 p.m. at Nictaux. Police were called to a single-vehicle crash. The driver was not able to negotiate a turn and went off the road. Nictaux fire also attended. There were no injuries. The vehicle had to be towed out of the ditch but was not heavily damaged.
-- Oct. 10 at 1:05 p.m. at Paradise. Police received a complaint of mischief at a daycare sometime over the weekend. There was damage to playground equipment as well as the shared public areas on the property. The file has been linked to other mischief complaints on the weekend and is under investigation.
-- Oct. 11 at 2:05 p.m. at Middleton. Police charged a 46-year-old woman with assault after an altercation at a business in Middleton. The woman will appear in provincial court at a later date.
-- Oct. 12 at 11:51 a.m. at Carleton Corner. Police received a call to check out an abandoned vehicle that had been reportedly left for five days. Police patrolled and were able to contact the registered owner and advised if the vehicle wasn’t moved it would be towed at the owner’s expense.
-- Oct. 13 at 11:51 a.m. at Deep Brook. Police were called to a complaint of threats. Police went to the scene and as a result of an investigation have arrested a 36-year-old man and charged him with two counts of assault as well as failing to comply with a probation order. He will appear in court at a later date.
-- Oct. 13 at 11:48 a.m. at Inglesville. Police were called to a single-vehicle crash. The caller advised he had been delivering mail and had come across a blue Ford truck upside down in a field. There were no injuries or entrapment. There were four people standing around the vehicle. Police went to the scene where the driver said that he had lost his breaking.
-- Oct. 13 at 5:51 p.m. at Carleton Corner. Police were called to a traffic hazard on Rice’s Road. They reported there was a half-load of gravel that had been dumped on the roadway. The Department of Transportation was advised and went to remove the gravel.
-- Oct. 13 at 7:56 p.m. at Wright’s Lake. Police were advised of an abandoned vehicle on Highway 101. Police located the vehicle and were able to contact the registered owner who said the vehicle was not operational. Police had the vehicle towed as it presented a hazard on the highway.
-- Oct. 14 at 12:21 a.m. at Wilmot. Police were called to a break-and-enter in progress. Police went to the scene and spoke to the caller who said an unknown person drove into her driveway, opened the garage door and entered the garage. He also checked both front and back door of the house. The person did not gain entry to the house and then left in a silver-coloured car heading towards Middleton. Police checked the garage and determined nothing was missing. Additional police made patrols of the area but were unable to locate a vehicle matching the description provided.
-- Oct. 14 at 9:56 a.m. at Upper Granville. Police received a complaint of fraud over the telephone. The complainant had received a call from a man reporting that he was with Bell advising the complainant that she’d made an over payment on her last phone bill. He requested her credit card information so as to return the overpayment. The complainant did not comply and hung up on the person.
-- Oct. 14 at 10:02 a.m. at Middleton. Police were called to a 911 hang-up call from a business. Police went to the scene and learned that store employees had been dealing with a disgruntled shopper who had since left. The business did not want to pursue the matter further. They were advised of their options should they wish to stop the person returning to their business.
-- Oct. 14 at 9:16 p.m. at Lawrencetown. Police received a call about noise. Police were not able to go to the scene at that time due to call volume, but a patrol was made later in the evening and there was nothing heard at that time.
-- Oct. 15 at 4:19 p.m. at Wilmot. Police received a complaint of mischief where someone had been dumping their garbage on the complainant’s property. This had happened on two occasions – two bags the first time, and three or four the second time. The file is under investigation.
-- Oct. 15 at 1:04 p.m. at Kejimkujik. Police were called to a 911 single-vehicle crash where a vehicle went off the road and hit a tree in the national park. The female driver and two children were not seriously injured. EHS attended as well.
-- Oct. 15 at 6:07 p.m. at Wright’s Lake. Police, EHS, and fire rushed to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 101. The vehicle had gone off the road and landed on some trees. The driver reportedly had a seizure causing him to go off the road, There were two passengers. There were no reported injuries from the crash although EHS took the driver to the hospital. The vehicle had to be towed.
-- Oct. 15 at 6:18 p.m. at Bridgetown. Police were called to a traffic hazard on Highway 101 at Exit 20. A cow was in the eastbound lane. Police patrolled but were not able to locate the bovine.
-- Oct. 16 at 4:29 p.m. at Wilmot. Police were called to a complaint of assault. Police went to the scene and as a result of an investigation have charged a 41-year-old man with assault with a weapon. The man will appear in court at a later date.
-- Oct. 16 at 9:49 p.m. at Middleton. Police were called to a report of a suspicious person slumped down in a car on Duke Street. Police and EHS went to the scene and found a 23-year-old man in the driver’s seat. He was medically cleared by EHS. There was a strong smell of alcohol coming from the driver as well as other intoxication signs. The man was read a breath demand and the driver blew a warning. He received a seven-day suspension.
