YARMOUTH, N.S. — An exercise to test hospital emergency preparedness will happen the evening of Thursday, Nov. 14 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital between 6:30 and 9 p.m.

During this time, patients and visitors may hear the hospital fire alarm and announcements over the public address system, as well as see increased activity related to the exercise. The Yarmouth Fire Department is involved and will arrive at the hospital as part of the exercise.

No actual patients will be moved during the exercise. Volunteers will play the part of patients.

The hospital will remain open during this exercise. Staff in control of the exercise will be wearing neon green, high visibility vests. People are asked to immediately notify someone wearing a neon green vest if there are any safety concerns or real situations during the exercise.

Patients or visitors who may be uncomfortable or anxious during this time should speak with their health care provider or hospital staff.

In a media release the Nova Scotia Health Authority says, "This exercise is an excellent opportunity to test our emergency preparedness planning. We want to thank staff, volunteers, patients and visitors for their cooperation."
