YARMOUTH, N.S. — YARMOUTH - A vacant house in Yarmouth, bordered on three sides by a parking lot, has been demolished. The Town of Yarmouth purchased the First Street building, known to many as the Roach property, last year for $84,000. The family of the late owner approached the town to see if it would be interested in buying the lot.
The town had been looking to acquire the property for close to 30 years to add valuable space to the Collins Street parking lot.
The parking lot has been proposed as the location for a new arts centre that was discussed in several public planning sessions last year, but Yarmouth Mayor Pam Mood says the Roach property site will be gravelled immediately in preparation for parking space.
“When paving season begins in the spring, it will be paved with hard surface,” she said.
