BIG GLACE BAY, N.S. — The brown pelican that was a common sight at Glace Bay wharf since hurricane Dorian hit Nova Scotia as a post-tropical storm seems to be gone.

Staff from Ka'le Seafoods Limited, where the bird spent most of its time, said they hadn't seen him since Sept. 28.

"We do hope he's gone back to where he's supposed to be," said Stephanie Fraser who works at Ka'le. "It was nice to see him here, though. We all went out to check on him every day."

The brown pelican was a juvenile, close to two years old, according to an expert with the Pelican Harbour Seabird Station in Miami, Fla. The expert also said temperatures 15 C and lower can be too cold for pelicans who are normally found in Florida and California.

Local wildlife experts have told the Cape Breton Post they believed the pelican would make his way home once temperatures dropped.
