WEST PUBNICO, N.S. — We’re number one! We’re number one!”
Staff at the Historic Acadian Village of Nova Scotia in West Pubnico are fully entitled to toot their own horn. This fall they received news that their site is currently in the #1 spot with TripAdvisor under Best Museums in Nova Scotia (#1 of 274 museums).
Executive director Richard Larin says they are thrilled.
“This past summer, we welcomed visitors from around the world, including across Canada, the U.S., Europe and as far away as Australia,” he said.
Visitor comments are often incredibly positive, he added.
He says the rating is a testament to their bilingual interpreters as they provide historical and entertaining information and find a way to make a real connection with many visitors.
Tourism Nova Scotia data shows many visitors are seeking an authentic experience, connecting with locals and history, enjoying beautiful scenery, and "slowing down.”
“The Historic Acadian Village of N.S. offers all that and more," said Larin.
The village, situated on a pastoral 17-acre site overlooking Pubnico harbour, invites visitors to step back in time and discover the heart, life and work of the Acadians in the early 1900s.

A SAMPLING OF TRIP ADVISOR REVIEWS:

Gorgeous location; superb staff; delicious Acadian food
Alison LS from Springfield, Mass.

Brought our grown-up son and some of his friends here for blueberry desserts. They almost missed the desserts because they loved the recreated village so much. It captures "the old days" as well as could be without a time machine. Even the smell of baking in a wood stove is genuine and so nostalgic. The "kids" spent a long time at the blacksmith shop. It's fascinating and the blacksmith is a great educator. Also saw nets being made, boats being built, the kitchen garden, etc. The desserts and music were also wonderful.

Brilliant!

This Acadian settlement, reconstructed from Acadian homes from the area, is amazing and certainly answered all our questions in a most interesting way. Five costumed interpreters enthusiastically told us stories of their lives and those of their families. We had two women cooking in the houses, a retired farrier in the blacksmith's shop (who forged us a nail with our initial on), an ex-fisherman who had learned dory boat making in his retirement and a fisherman who was making nets in a hut by the shore. We met chickens, pigs and cows. It was such an informative and vibrant few hours, our only regret being that we could not stay long enough to enjoy a coffee as the cafe was not yet open.

Great experience. Loved the people and their knowledge of the area. Felt like we were home. Beautiful place to visit if you are an Acadian.
