DIGBY, N.S. — The project to construct a renal dialysis unit at the Digby Regional Hospital is in Phase 2.
“The demolition of the old space on the first floor is complete and construction of the renal dialysis space is underway,” said Fraser Mooney, spokesman for the Nova Scotia Health Authority, when asked for an update on the project.
“At the same time, we are planning now for an orderly occupation of the new space as soon as possible after construction is completed.”
From the time it was announced in 2017, the province had said construction of the Digby unit was expected to be complete in 2020.
For patients in Digby and Annapolis counties, the unit at the Digby hospital will cut down travel time, as many travel to the unit at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. The six-station unit will serve about 24 patients.
The first phase of the project was completed several months ago and involved relocating Public Health offices to the third floor.
“Space was also renovated on the third floor of the Digby Hospital to accommodate offices that needed to be moved from the first floor where the renal dialysis unit is being built,” Mooney said. “Dr. Black now sees his patients in the newly renovated space on the 3rd floor.”
“This is a major project for this area, and as always, safety is a top concern,” he added. “We ask patients, visitors and the public to please be careful around the Digby Hospital as there is increased activity and more traffic during the demolition and construction parts of this project.”
