Missing East Kemptville man found deceased

EAST KEMPTVILLE, N.S. —

The RCMP has located the body of a 64-year-old man, who was reported missing from East Kemptville on Feb. 11.

The missing man had not been seen since Feb. 5. He was known to walk and hike extensively in the area. Yarmouth Rural RCMP was assisted by local volunteer Ground Search and Rescue, and RCMP Air Services and Underwater Recovery Team (URT). Searchers checked the lake and shoreline near the missing man's home until Feb. 13 with negative results.

The remains were located on March 1 in Beaverhouse Lake by the RCMP Underwater Retrieval Team. Divers were assisted by the New Minas Volunteer Fire Department in the retrieval of the remains. The department has a hovercraft which was instrumental in getting members of the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team to the location to retrieve the deceased man. The RCMP would also like to acknowledge the assistance provided by community members.

Thoughts are with the victim's family at this difficult time.
