SHELBURNE, N.S. — There were pumpkins galore at the annual Shelburne County Giant Pumpkin Festival in Shelburne on Oct. 12.

Children had their pick from the pumpkin patch to carve and decorate, while giant pumpkins tipped the scales in the annual weigh-in. Face painting, balloon animals, a barbecue and treat bags rounded out the activities.

Placing first in the pumpkin weigh-in was Craig Swim, with an 813-pound pumpkin. In second, John Penney, 650 pounds; third, Francis Campbell, 478 pounds; fourth, Hayden Bower, 468 pounds, fifth, Caleb Bower, 334 pounds; and sixth, Keith Bower, 279 pounds.
