TUSKET, N.S. — A vacant building on the Mood Road, which once housed the Living Waters Christian Academy, is being proposed as a 23-unit facility for seniors.
The Municipality of Yarmouth has approved the zoning and planning requirements for the new facility. CAO Victoria Brooks says the project is great news and the timing couldn’t be better.
“Access to affordable housing, in conditions that most people would want to live in, is a very real issue in Yarmouth County,” she said. “Having investors who are willing to take on these projects is great because there is a need in our community for this to happen.”
Developer Gerard Cottreau and his family are looking forward to sewing up the final details required before moving forward with renovations.
“It will make a perfect seniors’ boarding home - all one level, most rooms 16 x 20 feet with full bath and shower,” said Cottreau.
“The public space will be an open concept with a dining room and a big entertainment room that already has a stage. There are no steps, three exits, the grounds are nice and beautiful sunsets on the lake across the road.”
Cottreau also owns the Tusketvilla Seniors Home in Tusket.
