YARMOUTH, N.S.  – An investigation is underway after the RCMP and fire department responded to three suspicious fires in Yarmouth in the early morning hours of Jan. 25.

The fires occurred on Pleasant Street. The RCMP and fire department responded to the fires around 5 a.m.

RCMP Corporal Dal Hutchinson said later in the day on Thursday that an investigation is underway. The Nova Scotia Fire Marshal’s office will assist in the investigation.

“Two mailboxes were set on fire at two separate multi-unit apartment buildings,” he said, saying there was minimal damage as a result. The mailboxes were in the entrance ways of the units. “As well, an interior of a vehicle parked at a residence nearby was also set on fire.

“These fires are being treated as suspicious in nature and RCMP are asking for the public's assistance with this investigation,” Cpl. Hutchinson said.

If anyone has any information they are asked to contact the Yarmouth Town RCMP at 902-742-8777.
