YARMOUTH, N.S. –  At 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, the Yarmouth Rural RCMP responded to a complaint of a stolen vehicle from a home on Lake George Rd. in Lake George. An RCMP officer who was in the area located the vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the driver didn't stop for police.

The police continued to patrol the area and found the truck alleged to have been stolen, abandoned on an ATV trail near Hwy. 103. An RCMP Police Service Dog team was called to assist, and the driver was located a short distance from the truck, laying on the ground. He was arrested, and resisted the police officers' attempts to control him. With the assistance of the dog, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

A tow truck was called to remove the truck, which had become stuck in the trail. It was transported to Yarmouth Rural RCMP Detachment to be examined for evidence by Forensic Identification Services.

The driver, Stone Ekkian Pictou, 20, of Arcadia, Yarmouth County, was transported to cells and held in custody overnight. He was taken to Yarmouth Provincial Court today and was remanded to Feb. 11 in Yarmouth. Pictou has been charged with:

• theft of motor vehicle

• possession of property obtained by crime

• Operating a Motor Vehicle in a Manner Dangerous to the Public

• Flight From Police

• Obstruction

• Refusing to Comply with a Demand made by a Peace Officer

• Breach of Conditions (2 counts)

The investigation is ongoing.
