BRIDGETOWN, N.S. - Annapolis District RCMP had another busy week. They always get a few odd calls, but there were some head-scratchers the week of Dec. 2 to 9. Like the school bus that hit first a car, then a police cruiser. Or the guy who drove into the ditch and was found pounding on his vehicle.
Do you have insurance, registration, and a driver’s licence when you take to the highway? Some people don’t, apparently. Police met a few of them.
There was a fist through a window, and wandering cows and horses. Wilmot was the spot to be the past week.
Unfortunately, RCMP were called to a two-vehicle crash in Brickton that resulted in the death of a Lawrencetown woman. Our thoughts are with the family and all those affected by the tragedy.
Dec. 3, 2018
ARLINGTON WEST – A padlock on shed was broken and entry gained. Several items such as jerry cans, a hacksaw, and a crowbar were stolen.
WILMOT – A break-and-enter into a home was reported. Jewelry was stolen. The caller thinks it may have happened sometime during the past month. She admitted that she leaves doors unlocked when she goes for horse trail rides. The RCMP officer advised that is probably not the best practice and to make sure residence is secure when leaving. The RCMP is requesting members of the public with any information on this contact the Annapolis District RCMP.
WILMOT – A caller reported a male coming to his door and inquiring about his truck that was for sale. The caller did not have any trucks that were for sale so felt this was suspicious.

PARADISE – Police receives reports of a cow walking with two horses on the road. The caller tried to coax the animals to mooooooove off the road, but the herd wanted no part of it. The RCMP made a patrol and it appeared the animals had found their way back to their property.
BRICKTON – A two-vehicle accident resulting in one fatality. A vehicle crossed the centre line and hit the second vehicle. The pregnant driver and two small children in the second vehicle were transported to hospital, treated, and released. The driver of first vehicle was taken via LifeFlight to Halifax and died later from injuries.
MIDDLETON – RCMP received a report of a work place injury. A male injured his head on the windshield of a loader. He transported to hospital and later released.

WILMOT -- The RCMP received a call of a vehicle swerving all over the road. The officer located the vehicle and spoke with driver. She admitted she dropped her cigarettes on the floor and was attempting to get them. Remember smoking can kill, in more ways than one!
WILMOT – A school bus vs a car and then again vs police car! The driver of the empty school bus was backing into the driveway when it hit a vehicle. The RCMP arrived and found out the driver of the car had no insurance so along with the damage to her vehicle, she received a ticket under section 230 (1) of the Motor Vehicle Act $1,272.50. The bus driver then moved the bus but not before hitting the parked police car! All vehicles were towed.

WILMOT – RCMP responded to a two-vehicle MVA in Middleton. Vehicle #1 was turning left into a store and thought she had enough time to cross in front of Vehicle #2. Nope. Fortunately, both drivers were uninjured; both vehicles were towed.
MIDDLETON – Fraud. Local business reported someone had charged numerous items to an account. When the account owner got his statement, he was shocked to see all the items that were charged to his account. The investigation is ongoing.
CENTRELEA – There were reports of vandalism at the old Britex plant. A caller reported two trucks were on the property. RCMP made a patrol but the vehicles were gone upon arrival. No damage occurred.
WILMOT – A single-vehicle crash was reported. The caller said that when swerving to avoid hitting a dog, she hit the guardrail. The driver and dog remain uninjured but the vehicle had to be towed.

MIDDLETON – The Fast and Furious became the Slow and Serious after being stopped by the RCMP! Tickets for Sec 106(a)(c) for driving at speeds that exceed the posted speed limit by 31 km/hr or more $410; driving a motor vehicle without motor vehicle liability policy Sec 230(1) $1,272.50; failing to display number plates for current registration year 37(1)(a) $180; operating a vehicle without attached identification or proof of registration 37(1)(a) $180; driving while motor vehicle license revoked Sec 287(2) for which the driver will have to appear in court.
NICTAUX – A caller reported hearing a crash and then saw a car in the ditch with a male beating on it; hmmm, somethings not quite right… RCMP arrived and the driver showed obvious signs of impairment. A drug recognition expert was called to the scene. The driver was transported to the Bridgetown office. The driver initially complied with testing but after failing so miserably during the first test, he refused to do any more. The driver was charged with refusal and issued tickets for having no insurance and no registration. RCMP are reminding the public that the charge for driving impaired by drugs, results in the same charge as impaired by alcohol.
PARADISE – A caller reported damage to her rental home. A furnace leak resulted in oil being dispersed on the property. The RCMP have liaised with Department of Environment and the investigation is ongoing.
MIDDLETON – More phone scams! The suspects pose as RCMP members as well as a bank manager. The suspects requested $4,000 in gift cards. The caller bought the cards and provided the gift card numbers over the phone to the suspect along with his visa number. The RCMP requested he immediately contact the bank to cancel his visa and have his bank statements verified. The RCMP, once again, are reminding the public - never give out your credit card particulars to unknown parties over the phone.
CENTRAL CLARENCE – Police received another report of a single-vehicle accident. The driver was heading down hill and attempted to make righthand turn but drifted into the guard rail then the ditch. The driver and passenger were stuck in the car. Both parties were uninjured and the vehicle was towed.

CARLETON CORNER – Fist vs window. The injured party reported she got angry and punched a window. The RCMP officer suggested next time to take it out on a pillow. She was treated by EHS.
