BRIDGETOWN, N.S. — Annapolis District RCMP had another busy week March 31 to April 4, with impaired drivers, ATV and dirt bike drivers showing poor behaviour, a drug search that turned up more than the legal four pot plants per household, and two handguns reported.
And there was the guy screaming from behind the fridge at a Middleton business.
Following are some of the highlights:
March 31, 2019
MELVERN SQUARE – Police received a 911 call from a driver after she went into the ditch. Officers attended and noted the driver had slurred speech, poor stability, and coordination. No odour of liquor was present so a Drug Recognition Expert was called to do an evaluation which resulted in an opinion of Impaired by Narcotic Analgesic and CNS Depressant. The driver was lodged in cells for the night and given a court date upon release.
MIDDLETON – More syringes were reported and seized by RCMP.
NORTH WILLIAMSTON – Police received a report of ATVs going up and down the road. The caller stated they were very loud and worried about the safety of pedestrians in the neighborhood. Patrols by RCMP were made to the area. Although the ATVs not located this time round, we’re well aware and will be showing the colors in this neck of the woods.
TORBROOK – More noise. A caller reported a vehicle repeatedly squealing its tires. The RCMP are reminding the public that stunting can include driving 50 kilometres-per-hour over the limit, driving without due care or attention, and attempting to ‘spin’ a vehicle. The fine in Nova Scotia for stunting is $2,422.50, as well as a license suspension for seven days…. not to mention it’s not particularly good for your tires.

CLEMENSTVALE – In the early morning hours, the RCMP made a patrol to an alarm at Highlands Winery. It appeared the door blew open in the wind. Thank the heavens, the wine’s fine…
VIRGINIA EAST – A cottage was broken into and more than $3,000 damage inflicted. A thermal pane front window was broken and doors to the bath house and tool shed kicked in. RCMP are requesting any information be reported to the Annapolis District RCMP.
CLEMENTSPORT – An anonymous complaint was received that a male with two handguns was in the lobby. The complaint also included information of an accidental discharge. That generally gets our blood circulating. Information not included in the original complaint was the time delay of one week. That part is useful for responding RCMP. The investigation revealed it was in fact two pellet guns and the officer had a frank conversation with the owner and the pellet guns have since been relocated to a new caretaker.
LAWRENCETOWN – A drug search by the Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SCEU) of Annapolis, resulted in the seizure of 122 cannabis plants, a loaded handgun, and ammunition. Four people were arrested and held for court. The 122 cannabis plants is just a tad over the legal limit of four per household!

MIDDLETON – Whipper snapper spotted in Middleton racing through the school parking lot on a dirt bike at lunch hour followed by performing wheelies at Tim Hortons. He neglected to notice the police officer parked on the street in a marked police car! Extremely dangerous behavior considering it was lunch hour with countless students around. The stuntman and bike were located and the driver arrested and charged for dangerous driving.
TORBROOK – Three used needles and a spoon were located near the old NS Power station. The officer made a patrol, seized and disposed of same.
April 3, 2019
LEQUILLE – A caller reported that a vehicle just went into the ditch in front of home. The caller states it sounds like they are trying to get out of ditch because he can hear them revving their engine. RCMP made a patrol and noted clear indications the driver was intoxicated. The driver was arrested and failed both breath tests significantly. The driver was transported to cells to be held until sober. The driver will appear in court in May.
MIDDLETON – A caller reported that a male in her store was screaming, playing “peek a boo” from behind a fridge so as not to be seen by cameras. The owner was not impressed and the screamer will have to find elsewhere now to do his laundry as he has been served a Protection of Property act to remain away.
April 4, 2019
MIDDLETON – Smoke was reported coming from a garage. RCMP and fire made immediate patrols and it appears the furnace back fired due to high winds causing an extensive amount of smoke inside the building. Thankfully everyone was ok and minimum damage was done.
MAITLAND BRIDGE – Serious MVA was reported. A family of four was in the vehicle when it appeared to have hit an icy patch resulting in a collision. One child and adult male were airlifted to Halifax. The female driver was treated at Bridgewater hospital.
PORT GEORGE – A power line hanging close to the road was causing drivers to go on the other side of the road to go under it. The officer made a patrol and stopped the traffic while NS Power fixed the line.
MIDDLETON – A caller reported that a dark red station wagon with roof rack, drove up and down the road six times, backed into the driveway at the beginning of the cul de sac, sat for a few minutes before repeating. Officers made a patrol and waited for a period to see if vehicle would return but it did not.
MILFORD – An intoxicated male was parked in his vehicle on the side of the road with no gas. RCMP officers attended and while the driver did show signs of impairment, he was not charged due to an empty gas tank and therefore no ‘care and control’. The officer ensured he got home.
