BROADWAY, N.S. - Two people died and one was seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision that happened on Sunday morning, Dec. 16, near Broadway in Pictou County.
At approximately 10 a.m., RCMP responded to the collision between a 2012 Ford F150 and a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado on Hwy. 104 in Broadway between Exits 27 and 29. EHS and Barneys River and District Fire Department also responded. Upon police arrival, the two occupants of the Silverado, a 69-year-old male driver from Millertown, N.L., and a 61-year-old male passenger from Buchans, N.L., were found deceased. The driver and lone occupant of the Ford F150, a 61-year-old man from Tantallon, N.S., was transported by LifeFlight to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Northeast Traffic Services – Antigonish assisted with the investigation and a RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene. Both lanes of the highway were temporarily closed to traffic and reopened that evening.
The investigation is ongoing.
The portion of highway where the accident occurred is not twinned. On July 17, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the federal government is contributing $90 million to a $195 million project to twin 38 kilometres of highway between Sutherland's River and Antigonish. Shovels are expected to be in the ground by next summer with construction anticipated to begin in early 2020 with the goal to have that portion of Highway 104 twinned by 2024.
