Video and photos: Halloween Night on Parade Street

YARMOUTH – Every year the MacKinnons on Parade Street decorate their house for Halloween. And every year they draw a large – and appreciative – crowd.

Preparing their home as a fright-and-spooky-filled Halloween destination is no simple task. The homeowners spend the week prepping for Oct. 31. Grass and hay is spread out on the property and this year 40 bags of leaves were dumped out as well.

Fences are built, and so is a cemetery. Although it's a work in progress during the week, for the most part the big reveal only comes on Halloween day when most of the elements are put into place. Tim MacKinnon says they don't bring the Halloween elements out too early because they don't want them to get damaged. And at the end of the night, everything comes back down.

A donation box sat on the property with money collected going towards the purchase of more Halloween decorations for the next year. This year Tim MacKinnon says he spent about $1,200. He says he'll be looking for some bargins at the start of the week that he can set aside for next Halloween.

A new addition to the property this year was a carousel made out of a ceiling fan that provided some spinning enjoyment for some miniature skeletons.

While they enjoy having people visit their home on Halloween night MacKinnon says the real treat comes after Halloween – that's when they get a well deserved rest following all of their work and efforts.
