YARMOUTH, N.S. – The RCMP’s Provincial Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit has arrested a Yarmouth County man for child pornography and voyeurism offences.
According to an RCMP media release, on Jan. 18 the RCMP’s ICE Unit searched a home in East Kemptville, assisted by the RCMP’s Technological Crime Unit, Special Tactical Operations Team, Yarmouth District RCMP, Yarmouth/ Clare Street Crime Enforcement Unit and the Yarmouth General Investigative Section.
Jarrett Crowell, a 19-year-old man from East Kemptville, was arrested without incident. He has been charged with Distributing Child Pornography, Possession of Child Pornography and Voyeurism. He was taken to court and was released by a justice on conditions. He is scheduled to return to Yarmouth Provincial Court on April 9.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
In Nova Scotia it is mandatory for citizens to report suspected child pornography. This means that anyone who encounters child pornography material or recordings must report it to the police. Failing to report suspicious activity and materials could result in penalties similar to failure to report child abuse set out in the Child and Family Services Act.
The RCMP says citizens should report any suspected offences to their local police or by using Canada’s National tipline for reporting online sexual exploitation of children at www.cybertip.ca.
