McCARTHY, Angela Louise – age 87, Yarmouth Heights, Yarmouth. It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Angie on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born October 24, 1930 in Pinkney’s Point, Yarmouth Co., she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Rose Emma (Melanson) Surette. Angela had worked as a waitress at the Purity Lunch and at Wagner’s Restaurant, both in Yarmouth, and then became co-owner of Lupin Lunch. She went on to work as a sales clerk with Zellers in Yarmouth. Angela was a devoted member of St. Ambrose Co-Cathedral parish and of the CWL Yarmouth. She was also actively involved in various committees at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brooklyn prior to its closure. In her spare time, she enjoyed painting, reading, doing crossword puzzles, but especially enjoyed spending time with her family. In the last months of her life, Angie enjoyed many new activities and interests surrounded by the kind residents and caring staff at Yarmouth Heights. She is survived by daughters, Mona (Joseph) Burrows and Linda McCarthy-Wilson (Ray Flynn), as well as by a son, Robert (Lillian) McCarthy, all of Yarmouth. She was also a loving grandmother to Lindsay, Allyson, Lia, Maria and Brett, as well as a sister to Laura Letteney, Yarmouth; Christina Kuzyk and Leona Jorstad, both of Ontario. Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Gerald J. McCarthy; brothers, Roy, Arthur, Donald, Ronald, Delmer, Edward, Arnold and Clarence; sisters, Freda, Doris, Marion, Emily, Anita and Elizabeth “Betty”. Please note that in accordance with the family’s wishes, there was no visitation. A funeral Mass was held on Thursday, August 16 at 11 a.m. at Saint Ambrose Co-Cathedral, Yarmouth, Father Henry Smolenaars officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery.
