Bernice Blades — Yarmouth

Bernice Blades
BLADES, Bernice Mary – age 97, Sunset Terrace, Yarmouth, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 18, 2017 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital with family at her side. Born June 6, 1920 in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late James Walter and Florence Mae (Smith) Doucette. Bernice was a homemaker, having also worked at the Lord Nelson Hotel in Halifax. In the past, she enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting and walking. Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George Wilfred Blades; a son, George Blades; sisters, Ida Muise and Mildred Walker as well as by a brother, Billy Doucette. She is survived by her loving children, Terrance “Terry” Blades, Yarmouth; Wendell (Sandra) Blades, St. Catharines, Ont.; Larry (Joyce) Blades, Joan Thomas, Brian (Leslie Cranley-Blades) Blades, all of Yarmouth; Sandra (Larry) Fitzgerald, Arcadia, as well as by 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Visitation took place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Wednesday with prayers at 8 p.m. at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. A funeral Mass was held on Thursday, December 21 at 11 a.m. from Saint Ambrose Co-Cathedral in Yarmouth, Father Henry Smolenaars officiated. Interment took place in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Yarmouth. Donations in memory of Bernice may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of choice.
