Carl Lewis
LEWIS, Carl Joseph - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carl J. Lewis on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at the Lac La Ronge Health Center with family by his side. Carl was born on Tuesday, November 10, 1936, to Darrel and Catherine Lewis in Digby, Nova Scotia. He had four siblings and the family grew up in a small fishing community on the Bay of Fundy. They all worked together, supporting each other as a traditional fishing family. Carl wanted more out of life then what Gullivers Cove could offer, so he pursued a career in the Armed Forces. Carl enlisted in 1958 and his first posting was in Gagetown, New Brunswick, where he met his future wife, Joan Tuppen. Carl’s career took them overseas and they started their family on military bases in Germany. The family moved back to Canada in 1963, and Carl was posted to Petawawa, Ontario. Carl did two more tours of duty overseas between 1965-1968. Carl’s final posting would move the family to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1970. Carl retired from the Armed Forces in 1980, at which point he started his second career with Saskatchewan Mining Development Corporation (now Cameco). This career took Carl to Uranium City in northern Saskatchewan, eventually settling in La Ronge, Saskatchewan. It was in La Ronge where Carl met Glennis Folkvord. Carl and Glennis were married in 1986 and built a life together in La Ronge. Carl had many passions in his life, fishing, hunting and travel to name a few; he especially loved carpentry and was very well known for his wood work. He loved to pass along his skills to anyone that was interested. Family was important to Carl, especially his children and grandchildren who always brought a smile to his face. He enjoyed watching them in any activity they participated in. He was proud of all their accomplishments. Carl had a big heart and loved to be with his family and friends. His time spent visiting with friends was a big part of his retired life, enjoying their company at Candle Lake made for memorable summers. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Glennis of 34 years; his children and grandchildren, Carrie-Lee (Lyle Williams) and their children, Chris (Sara) and Levi of Saskatoon, Brent and his children, Olivia and Dane of Vancouver, Marlene (Norman Brassard) and their children, Shanelle and Selena of Prince Albert, Koreen (Len Kincart) and their children, Devan (Jordan) and Brooke of Saskatoon; two sisters, Jean and Edna both in New Brunswick. Carl was predeceased by his parents, Darrel and Catherine Lewis; his brothers, Earl and Hugh Lewis; and his granddaughter, Victoria Kincart. The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and aides who provided the care that helped him pass away on his terms. A Celebration of Carl’s Life was be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the La Ronge Alliance Church, 312 Boardman Street. Interment will follow at a later date. Donations in lieu of tributes can be made to the Northern Animal Rescue or the Cancer Society in Carl’s memory. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Lac La Ronge Funeral Home in La Ronge, SK, 306-425-3666, Debra Klassen, Funeral Director, and River Park Funeral Home in Prince Albert, SK, 306-764-2727, Donald M.
