HURLBERT, Elaine Mae (Sullivan), age 73, of Yarmouth passed away on February 6th, 2019 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born April 29th, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Muriel (Smith) Sullivan. Elaine grew up in Yarmouth town where she enjoyed roller skating and ice-skating parties. After graduating from Vocational School, she worked in medical records at the Yarmouth Hospital. She then attended Eastern Pentecostal Bible College in Peterborough, Ontario where she received her ministerial diploma. From there she travelled to Geraldton, in northern Ontario to do ministry. Once she returned to Yarmouth, she met Bud Hurlbert at a skating party. They married in 1970 and then moved to Amherst, Nova Scotia where she worked in Medical Records at the Amherst Hospital. In 1973 she had her first daughter Michelle. In 1974 they moved back to Yarmouth and built their permanent home in Rockville. In 1980 they had their second daughter Laura. Elaine helped Bud establish his own business as a Chartered Accountant in 1985 and worked alongside him until she retired in 2016. Throughout her life she remained active in ministry. She was a leader in “chums”, Sunday School, Christmas Concerts, puppets, singing, playing piano, and Pioneer Clubs, and was always ready to help when a hand was needed. Elaine was scrapbooking as a child and continued throughout her life, making wonderful scrapbooks of memories for family and friends. She enjoyed reading and passed on both of these loves to her two daughters. Her favourite activities were walking on “Back Beach” with Bud and watching the sunset from their backyard.
