Esther Nickerson
Nickerson, Esther Laura – 101, of Clark’s Harbour, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2017 at The Roseway Manor, Shelburne. Born in Clark’s Harbour on December 21, 1915 where she grew up and remained for 96 years. She was the daughter of the late Job and Laura (Newell) Nickerson. Esther was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward; two brothers, Dewey and Edwin; five sisters, Ellen, Viola, Lillian, Florence and Virginia; special friend/sister-in-law, Lorraine Nickerson. She is survived by two sons, Kent (Joan) of Surrey, B.C. and Maurice (Madeline) of North East Point, N.S.; four grandchildren, Robin, Jill, Scott and Laura; eight greatgrandchildren, Lee, Francois, Maddy, Braeden, Erik, Ellie, Bianka and Gavin; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Esther was a devout Christian, very active in both the West Head Advent and West Head Wesleyan Churches. She taught Sunday School and led an adult Christian Ladies Group (her girls) for many years. She was a people person, loved everyone, an inspiration to the many lives she touched over the years. Living a good Christian example was her number one goal throughout her long exemplary life. Besides her church activities she managed to hold many jobs, helping to provide for her family. She worked at several stores (Layton’s Furniture and Brown’s Variety), fish plant (Cold Storage), Dairy Queen and others all while providing a loving, stable home. Esther was always willing to help others and to assist when needed. For those of us who were fortunate enough to have known Esther, her life and how she lived it is her story. It is with sad hearts, yet wonderful memories, we have to say goodbye. We will always love you R.I.P. Visitation was held from 6-7 pm for family and 7-9 pm for the public on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at the H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington.
