Eugene Doucette — Yarmouth

DOUCETTE, Eugene Joseph – age 84, Amirault’s Hill, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 29, 2018 with his family at his side in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born April 14, 1934 in Amirault’s Hill, he was a son of the late Guillaume and Hortense (Muise) Doucette. A jack-of-all-trades, Eugene began working as a salesman for Singer, eventually working his way up to management. In 1958 he began working at the cotton mill in Yarmouth and worked his way up to foreman and remained with the company until it closed. He served as a councillor and was a former warden for the Municipality of the District of Argyle. He was one of the founding members of the Twin Village Social Club in Amirault’s Hill and was also proud to serve on the board of directors for many community organizations including YACRO, Nakile Home for Special Care and Yarmouth-Argyle Home Support Services, but he was particularly fond of his time spent as coordinator of EMO for the Municipality of Argyle. Eugene was also a devoted member of Holy Family Parish, where he had also served on parish council. He will be remembered for his love of meeting and helping people. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 64 years, Augusta “Gusta” (Muise) Doucette, as well as by their children, Eugene (Daisy) Doucet Jr., Carmen Roberts, both of Amirault’s Hill; Simone (Gregory) Doucette, Bellneck; Derrick (Doreen) Doucette, Argyle, as well as by eight grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren (and another on the way) and one great-great grandchild (and another one on the way), and a sister, Nora Doucette, Amirault’s Hill. Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Darlene; a grandson, Devin Roberts as well as brothers, Leslie Doucette and Zachary Muise. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. The family received friends at Holy Family Church, Amirault’s Hill, from 10:15 a.m. until the time of the funeral, which took place at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 3, Deacon Bruce Hubbard officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. The family wishes to send a special thank you to Dr. Thomas Muise and the nursing staff on 3-East at the Yarmouth Hospital for the care and compassion they showed Eugene and his family during his stay there.
