HURLBERT, James Alfred, 83, Deerfield, Yarmouth Co., passed away Thursday, January 10, 2019 in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Canaan, Yarmouth Co., he was a son to the late Harvey Ray and Leona (White) Hurlbert. He worked for Nova Scotia Department of Transportation in Yarmouth for 29 and a half years. Starting his career as a grader operator, then as an operator instructor and tester until his retirement in 1991. He then worked for Brazil Lake Enterprises and Gary Allen Excavating until 2017. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Barbara Ann (Sabean), Deerfield; nephew, Norman Everett (Krista Carter) Sabean, Deerfield, of whom he thought of as his own son and daughter-in-law; Hunter James (Samantha LeBlanc), Berwick, who were like grandchildren to him; sister, Hilda (James Allen), Carleton; brother-in-law Walter Boudreau, Yarmouth; as well as many nieces and nephews. Beside his parents he was predeceased by his sister Miriam Boudreau, three brothers and two sisters in infancy. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. There was no visitation by request of the family. Cremation has taken place and interment will be at a later date in the Deerfield Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Tri County VON, Deerfield Cemetery or charity of choice.
