John Richard Surette — Yarmouth

John Richard Surette
Surette, John Richard – age 66, Yarmouth, passed away at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital on April 27, 2019. Born in Morris Island, he was the son of the late Luxime and Theresa (LeBlanc) Surette. Richard was a lobster fisherman almost all of his life, he also worked for Department of Transportation for about 20 years. When he was younger he went apple, potatoes, and tobacco picking. He is survived by his three sons; Jason (Sonya), Ryan (Jessica), Nick (Heather); grandchildren, Chelsea Surette, Chantal Surette, Brittany Surette, Jayson Surette, Natteal Battiste, Cheneyce Battiste, Conner Shaw, Cassie Surette; great-grandchildren, Courtney Surette-Robertson, Paisley Surette and Nevelynn Downey-Battiste. He is also survived by sisters, Mabel (Alvin) Hubbard, Pauline (Leslie) Muise, Marie (Jerry) Cottreau, Jeannette (Roland) Cottreau and brothers, Kenneth (Noreen) Surette and Allan (Carmella) Surette. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother Leo, sister-in-law Jane, sisters, Mildred, Bernadette, and granddaughter Courtney Sykes-Surette. He is going to be greatly missed by all his family and friends but never forgotten. Visitation took place from 6-8 p.m. on Monday with prayers at 7 p.m. at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. A funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 30 from Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, Surette’s Island, Deacon Bruce Hubbard officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in Richards’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Tri-County VON.
