Margaret 'Joyce' Baxter

Margaret 'Joyce' Baxter
BAXTER, Margaret ‘Joyce’ It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of (Margaret) Joyce Baxter on Saturday, October 12, 2019 in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Joyce spent her last year at the Villa St Joseph du Lac where she received care and love from all the wonderful staff. Joyce was born to Edwin and Margaret Dickey on August 3, 1933 in Barrie, Ontario and lived her early years throughout northern Ontario with her family, bother Donald (deceased) and sister June. Joyce was a registered nurse, graduating from the Victoria Hospital nursing program in London, Ontario and completing a certificate of public health from University of Toronto in 1958. Joyce came to Digby, Nova Scotia to work with the VON and met and married Richard Baxter (died August 31, 2014) in 1960. She had a wonderful career as a nurse working for VON, Yarmouth Regional Hospital and the Department of Public Health. She was loved by all her patients and will live in the memory of many. Joyce loved spending time with her family, especially at ‘Bell Lake’ in Carleton, NS, where she and Richard lived for many of their retirement years. Mrs. B was an avid knitter and made over 200 personalized Christmas stockings for family and friends of the family. Her memory will live on every Christmas morning throughout all of Canada. Mrs. B volunteered her time in a number of community organizations, most recently as a volunteer in the hospital gift shop where she made many new friends. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Paula Burns (Donna Gilbert) in Lethbridge, AB and her son, Blair Baxter in London, ON. She was Grammie to her special grandchildren, Ashton Burns (Chantal Piat), Karleen Burns (Jordan Ward), Darby Burns and Kelson Burns, and also loved by her former son-in-law, Andrew Burns. She is also survived by her sister, June (Monte) Montemurro and sister-in-law, Delores Dickey and their children. Cremation is entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. We will celebrate Joyce’s life in a service at Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, October 26 at 3 p.m. Visitation will take place at Sweeny’s on Friday, October 25 from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Villa St. Joseph du Lac or to the Women’s Auxilliary – Yarmouth Hospital Foundation. Online condolences may be made to [email protected] or you may sign the guestbook online at www.sweenysfuneralhome.net
