Peter Leblanc — Yarmouth

LeBLANC, Peter Augustin – age 87, Morris Island, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born May 28, 1931 on Morris Island, he was a son of the late Matteur and Lena (Muise) LeBlanc. Peter and his family lived in Sandwich, Mass. for more than 15 years, where he worked as a carpenter and as a heavy equipment operator. After moving back to Nova Scotia he worked as a lobster fisherman as well as at IMO Foods in Yarmouth. He also worked in Labrador for a time as a cook in his early years. Peter enjoyed woodworking and sports and was a huge Yankees fan, having also been a little league coach. Peter will fondly be known as “Grandpere fix-it”. He also served as a Boy Scout leader and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 8988, Tusket and the Fourth Degree Assembly No. 1428, Yarmouth. Peter is survived by his children, Joe (Tina) LeBlanc, Falmouth, MA; Michael “Mike” LeBlanc (Debbie Burke), Osterville, MA and Sharon (Tom) Dennison, Yarmouth Port, MA, as well as by step-daughters, Gail (Lenny) Surette, Surette’s Island and Donna (Merle) d’Entremont, Lower West Pubnico; grandchildren, Brendan, Ashley, Rachel, Evan, Michael, Nicole, Kayla, Courtney, Cameron, Marcel (Marcie), Jean-Marc (Katrina) and Raquelle (Brody); two great-grandchildren; Alyssa and Karson. Also surviving are sisters, Theresa (Howard) Frazer, Larry’s River; Madeline Baker, Falmouth, MA and Margaret Crowell, Yarmouth. Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Geraldine (Robichaud) LeBlanc and his second wife, Doris (Fitzgerald) LeBlanc, as well as by his siblings, Joseph LeBlanc, Frances Clements, Thomas LeBlanc and Lorette Brown. Visitation took place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening with prayers at 7 p.m. at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert St., Yarmouth. A funeral Mass was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 26 from Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, Surette’s Island, Father Maurice LeBlanc officiated. Interment followed in Saint Anne’s Parish Cemetery, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau. Memorial donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus Charitable Foundation.
