JOHNSTON, Phyllis Mary – age 99. Born June 17, 1918 in Worthing, England to George and Ada Whitington and died March 18, 2018, at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, Nova Scotia. On March 25, 1943 she married Capt. Gerald F Johnston from Clarence, Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia who was in England with the West Nova Scotia Regiment. Capt. Johnston, a War Amp, died on Oct 27, 1991 in Yarmouth from complications of Multiple Sclerosis. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Johnston, Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA, and Sheila Moore (Gregory), Brockville, Ontario, and their children: Melanie Brooks (Russ), Lanark, Ontario; Christopher Moore (Alex), Ottawa, Ontario; Andrew Moore (Kristina), Toronto, Ontario; and by her great grandchildren, Paige, Quinn, Emilie, Ian and Zoe. Also survived by her niece Shirley Kale (Len) and their family in England, and by her nephew’s wife Alma Whitington and family in Australia. Also survived by her nieces and nephews, Roy Miller (Elaine), Greta Goodwin (Larry) and family; Gordon (Cathy) Miller and family; Dianne Miller and her son Stephen. Also survived by her much-loved friend and companion, her cat Toby. Predeceased by her parents, her brother George Whitington, Australia, her sister Margaret (Dot) Peterson, England, and her nephew George Whitington Jr, Australia, and her sister-in-law Margaret Miller and Margaret’s husband Wilfred and their son, Glenn Miller. Memorial service and internment will be at Town Point Cemetery in June with a reception to follow at 57 King Street, Yarmouth. Donations to the Tri-County VON and the Yarmouth SPCA would be appreciated. A special thank you to Linda Gregory who for many years faithfully helped with housekeeping, and to Ann States and her team at “There For You Personal Care” who provided compassionate and professional care of Phyllis in her home, and to the VON nurses for their prompt and kind response to requests for assistance.
