As a follow up to my letter of Friday whining about the loss of songbirds at my window feeder, I looked out Saturday morning to see eight bald eagles in my tree with a murder of crows flying around like Spitfires after the Bismarck. I was surprised to see so many crows risking their lives, but I soon found out why. Apparently, one of the eagles had dropped a dead frozen chicken next to my garage and they were trying to take advantage of the treat dropped there.

It was like World War II out there. I have heard bird noises that I have never heard before, and believe me, they are not birdsongs. The size of the flying wings cast shadows into my windows.  I am beginning to think of the movie The Birds. Whom should I call? How can I make them go away? Big, booming noises chase birds away from the grapes. Will I have to get one of those to protect me from the raptors surrounding me now?
