Atom B and novice teams hitting the ice for Mariners Classic Hockey Tournament in Yarmouth Feb. 22-24

YARMOUTH, N.S. — The Pink Star Barro Atom B Mariners are hosting the Mariners Classic Hockey Tournament at the Mariners Centre Feb. 22-24.

The is the first time, to the organizers’ knowledge, that an atom-level tournament has been held in Yarmouth.

There are six teams taking part in the tournament.

The host Atom B Mariners will play Clare-Digby on Friday, Feb. 22 from 6-7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Feb. 24, the Yarmouth team plays Chester at 12:30 p.m. and then plays TASA at 5:30 p.m. The other teams rounded out the tournament roster are Western Valley and South Shore.

Sunday, Feb. 24, sees crossover action following the round robin with 1st vs 4th playing at 11:30 in Arena 1 and 2nd vs. 3rd playing at noon in Arena 2.

There will be a 5th place vs 6th place game at 3:30 p.m. in Arena 2. The championship game takes place at 4 p.m. in Arena 1.

In the round robin, Clare-Digby’s games also include an 11 a.m. match-up Saturday versus South Shore and a 4:30 p.m. game that day against West Valley.

The host Pink Star Barro Atom B Mariners have been very successful on the tournament front this year, having won two tournaments already.

There is also a novice intermediate component to the tournament weekend, with four novice teams taking part. The novice teams include Yarmouth (sponsored by Spears and MacLeod), Barrington, Chester/Clare and Sackville. This is solely round robin play as scores are not recorded at the novice level.
