Team Nova Scotia split their games on the opening day of Baseball Canada’s 2014 15U Boys National Championships, happening in Vaughan, Ontario.

Nova Scotia dropped their first game on Aug. 21, 6-4 to New Brunswick.

In their second game Nova Scotia defeated Newfoundland 19-4.

The only local player on the Nova Scotia team is Brad Jones of Yarmouth. In his first game he went one for two, hitting a single. In the team’s second game Jones had a single, two RBIs and three stolen bases. 

On Aug. 22 Nova Scotia plays PEI in the morning and Saskatchewan in the afternoon.

Another player at the tournament with ties to Yarmouth is Brett Mercier, a former Yarmouth resident who now lives in Moncton and is playing for Team New Brunswick. Mercier was named MVP in New Brunswick’s win o over Nova Scotia. He had four strikeouts in three innings pitched.

New Brunswick won both of its games on the opening day of nationals, their other victory being a 6-4 win over New Brunswick.

On Aug. 23 Nova Scotia defeated PEI 13-3 and lost to Saskatchewan 12-4.
