Results: Yarmouth ball teams at nationals

PLEASANT VALLEY WINS TIER II TITLE: The Pleasant Valley Lakers, playing in the 50+ division, captured the Tier II championship by defeating the Ottawa Braumeisters 12-5. The Lakers were up 6-5 when they scored six runs in the sixth inning to break the game open. The Yarmouth Red Knights played in the championship game of the over 35 baseball championships late Monday afternoon. The Knights came up short, losing to Woodslee 11-4.

  Yarmouth ball teams win openers at nationals

The Yarmouth-area teams taking part in the national oldtimers’ baseball tournament in Burlington, Ontario, were all triumphant Friday in their first games of the tourney.

The Yarmouth Red Knights defeated York 2-0 and Brazil Lake was a 12-2 winner over the Charlottetown Cubs.

The Red Knights and Lakers are in the tournament’s 35+ division.

Pleasant Valley, playing in the 50+ division, defeated the Ottawa Braumeisters 8-4.

 

RED KNIGHTS WIN SECOND GAME

The Yarmouth Red Knights won 7-0 over Brazil Lake in their second game at nationals. 

The Knights were not been scored on in their first two games and continued to dominate on the mound. In this game Duane Doucette, Curtis Falls and Kevin Nichols pitched the shutout.  The Knights were slated to play Woodslee Saturday morning in Game 3.

 

PLEASANT VALLEY LAKERS LOSE

 

The Pleasant Valley Lakers, playing in the 50+ division of the national tournament, fell 12-6 Saturday to the BC Capitals.

 

RED KNIGHTS FALL TO WOODSLEE

 

In their third game of the tournament, the Yarmouth Red Knights lost to Woodslee 8-5. Curtis Falls homered and singled and Ray Jacquard had two singles for the Red Knights, who fell behind early in this one.

 

YARMOUTH TEAMS SPLIT GAMES

In the 35+ division on Saturday, July 30, the Brazil Lakers won over the York Diamonds 7-6.

In the 50+ division on Saturday, the Red Deer Snowbirds defeated the Pleasant Valley Lakers 6-5.

 

RED KNIGHTS DOWN TILLSONBURG

The Red Knights beat Tillsonburg 5 to 1 to stay alive at Nationals on Saturday. The Knights were 3-1 and would be in a battle for a wildcard berth when they played Charlottetown Sunday at 12:30 p.m.  In their game with Tillsonburg, the Knights played solid defense behind pitchers Duane Doucette, Luke Smith and closer Jeff Bishop.

 

BRAZIL LAKERS DROP 2

The Brazil Lakers fell to the Woodslee Orioles 11-2 and lost to the Tillsonburg Old Sox 11-10.

 

PLEASANT VALLEY LAKERS HEADED TO CHAMPIONSHIP

In the 50+ division on Sunday the Pleasant Valley Lakers defeated the Scarborough Maroons 7-5. Pleasant Valley will be playing for the Tier II championship on Monday.

 

RED KNIGHTS GAINED WILDCARD BERTH

 

The Red Knights gained a wildcard berth at nationals with their 4-1 record and were playing the Burlington Black 49ers Saturday night. The winner of this game goes on to play in the championship for the Roy Boudreau Memorial Trophy.

The Knights banged out 14 runs en route to a 14-7 win over Charlottetown Cubs on Sunday. Offensive stars for Yarmouth were Luke Smith and Ray Jacquard. Pitchers were Curtis Falls, Duane Doucette, Kevin Nichols and Steve Newell (closer)

 

RED KNIGHTS ADVANCE TO TITLE GAME

 

The Knights have done it again. For the third year in a row, Yarmouth heads to the final in the CNOBF National Over 35 Baseball Championships. Yarmouth defeated host Burlington by a score of a 13-0 to move on to the title match. Yarmouth feasted on Black 49ers pitching, led by Kentville pick-ups Luke Smith (single, double) and Jeff Bishop (3-run homer, single, 5 RBI). Yarmouth meets Woodslee in the final at 3:30 p.m.
