The Yarmouth Pizza Delight Mosquito AA Gateways are Atlantic champions after going undefeated in the mosquito AA Atlantics championship tournament that they hosted, which was attended by the provincial championship teams from the four Atlantic provinces.

The Yarmouth team won the championship after defeating the Grand Falls-Windsor Teck Braves of Newfoundland 14-1 in the final game. Yarmouth had two shut out wins in the tournament, they scored 44 runs against their opponents and only had three runs scored against them in five games.

The Tournament MVP was Max Nickerson from the Gateways and the Top Pitcher was Teegan Scott from the Gateways.

• The five teams taking part in the tournament were:

Yarmouth Pizza Delight Mosquito AA Gateways

Grand Falls-Windsor Teck Braves of Newfoundland

New Glasgow Kinsmen Crofter’s Cubs of Nova Scotia

Western Valley Shiretowners of New Brunswick

West Prince Aces (No. 2) of PEI

Championship game inning highlights:

Top of the 2nd inning for Newfoundland:

Bottom of the 2nd inning for Yarmouth:

NFLD 6 – NS 5

Yarmouth 6 – PEI 0

NFLD 17 – NB 10

Atlantics note:

• The schedule had to be readjusted several times due to the aftermath of games having been rained out on the first day of play because of tropical storm Gabrielle. Organizers managed to get all of the games in, although things were still a little soggy.

• Some ball players had to contend with a bit of a distraction in the sky on the final day of Atlantics as acts in the Yarmouth International Airport Air Experience took to the air for an air show. Kids still concentrated on the game, but you could see them steal a few glances upwards to see what was going on there as well.

• Kudos to the organizers of Atlantics. After the Yarmouth team was awarded the championship banner a CF-18 flew overhead. Okay, it was just a coincidence from the air show happening near by, but still, it was kind of neat.
