Mariners score late to edge Bearcats in MHL playoff tilt

TRURO, N.S. – Logan Timmons scored with 15 seconds remaining in the third period to lift the Yarmouth Mariners to a 2-1 win over the Truro Bearcats in Game 2 of a Maritime Junior Hockey League South Division semifinal series on Saturday.

Timmons raced down the right wing and rifled a shot that beat Bearcats goaltender Myles Hektor to the stick side on a 2-on-1 break.   

The victory gave Yarmouth a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. Game 3 is Tuesday in Yarmouth and Game 4 is Thursday in Truro. Both contests begin at 7 p.m.

Matt Barron gave the Mariners a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 9:27 of the first period. Former Mariner Lauchie MacDonald tied for the Bearcats at 9:10 of the middle frame.

Hektor made 25 saves, while Tyler Caseley made 26 stops for the Mariners.
