Yarmouth Mariners drop two games on weekend: undefeated win streak ends at 12

On the road in New Brunswick over the weekend, the team lost 3-2 to the Campbellton Tigers on Friday, ending their season’s undefeated winning streak.

Campbellton wasted no time getting onto the scoreboard, scoring its first goal 37 seconds into the game. The team had a 2-0 lead after one.

Connor Peveril scored for the Mariners in the second to cut the Tigers’ lead in half. In the third period Campbellton scored at 8:03 to increase the gap to 3-1. The Mariners’ Matt Warner scored a couple of minutes later. Two of Campbellton’s three goals were scored on the power play.

On Saturday the Mariners dropped a 9-1 game to Miramichi, the top team in the Eastlink North Division.

Yarmouth’s lone goal came at 4:59 in the second period from Aaron Maillet on the power play. The Timberwolves scored twice in the first period, five times in the second and twice more in the third.

The Mariners have 24 points and a 12-2 record in the Eastlink South Division. The Mariners host the Pictou County Crushers on Friday night and travel to Amherst on Saturday.
