Shay MacPhee was the season’s overall points champion – a follow-up to being named rookie of the year for 4 Cyl Men in 2017. He won all of his featured races this season, except for one that got rained out. Asked how much he enjoyed taking part in this year’s race season, MacPhee, 17, says he had set a goal for himself to be the points champion and put a lot of work and effort into achieving this goal.

“I had an amazing season. Hard work pays off and I spent a lot of time on my car and practicing,” he says.

Asked what it is about racing he enjoys most, he says, “Winning and the rush.” Still, there’s a lot going on on the minds of racers when they’re rounding the laps at top speeds, when MacPhee is asked what went through his mind throughout the season he says, “Don’t break down and when I’m leading I concentrate on not making a mistake.”

For Lake Doucette Motor Speedway fans, while the regular race season is over there is still another race day coming up at the track. A Fall Finale is slated for Sunday, Sept. 30.
