This is the second year for the Lighthouse Triathlon in Yarmouth, which is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 25, and the race date is noteworthy in itself, considering that the event was held on a Sunday when it was introduced in 2017.

The race again will feature Olympic and sprint distances and, once more, there are a number of participation options.

Also like last year, the Milo boat club will serve as the race’s start and finish and as the transition area (both from swimming to biking and from biking to running).

The event’s Olympic distance course consists of a 1.5-kilometre swim, along with a 40K bike and a 10.5-K run. The sprint distance is basically half as far for each discipline.

For those who prefer to tackle two of the three triathlon legs, there is the “amphib” option, which consists of a 1.5K swim and 40K bike, or the terra option, which is a 40K bike and 10.5K run.

Or participants may choose to enter as a team to cover the event’s Olympic-distance route.

There were 26 participants in last year’s inaugural Lighthouse Triathlon, including 14 individuals and four three-person teams.

The Yarmouth area had an adult triathlon for over three decades, starting in 1984, but that event was discontinued.

Yarmouth County also has an annual triathlon for children. The 2018 version of that race – the Ellenwood Kids Triathlon – took place July 7.

As for the Lighthouse Triathlon, people can register online through Race Roster or by dropping off a completed entry form to Runner’s Attic on Main Street in Yarmouth (cash payment only) no later than noon on Aug. 24, the day before the race.

Participants also can register on race morning between 6:45 and 7:45. The race is scheduled to start at 8 a.m.
