YARMOUTH, N.S. — The annual JStrong Softball Tourney was another grand slam.
The event, held July 26-28 in Yarmouth County, raised $17,500 for the JStrong fund, which helps support youth in Yarmouth County in accessing sport by providing assistance through registrations and sponsorships.
The fund was made in memory of Yarmouth teenager Jadon Robinson. Since its inception the fund has raised in excess of $100,000 to help young people access sport and be active.
The team winners of this year’s tournament were:
• A Division: Homewreckers
• B Division: Bombers
• C Division: Canadian Tire
• D Division: Roymar
The tournament organizers extend huge thanks to the volunteers, sponsors, donors and participants for the event’s ongoing success. It is a huge community undertaking.
"We are extremely happy with the support we get from local businesses and volunteers. This couldn't happen with out their support," says Steve Berry, one of the main organizers of the event.
"This is a true example of what coming together for a good cause can do," he says. "In four years this tournament has raised over $50 000. It’s now known as the best ball tourney of the summer and we look forward to continuing to build on what we’ve started."
The tournament also donated its portion of a 50/50 draw, $277, to the Gilles Boudreau and friends Cancer Support Network.
The next big fundraising event for the JStrong Fund is the annual golf tournament that takes place at the Yarmouth Links. It is being held Aug. 15 after wet weather postponed it in June. After that it'll be the street hockey tournament towards the end of September.
