Jamie Murphy suffered his first loss at the Deloitte Tankard on Thursday night.

The Halifax Curling Club skip, who entered the evening draw without a loss through his first five matches, lost a close 6-5 decision to clubmate Kendal Thompson at the provincial men's curling championship at the Dartmouth Curling Club.

Thompson, who earlier in the day beat winless Alan O'Leary of Dartmouth 7-3 in nine ends, improves to 4-2.

Murphy, with Philip Crowell, Scott Saccary and Paul Flemming, still leads with a 5-1 record. The five-time provincial champion defeated Mayflower's Brent MacDougall 9-7 in the morning draw.

MacDougall (2-4) rebounded later Thursday, only needing six ends to upend O'Leary 7-2. O'Leary falls to 0-6.

Elsewhere, Halifax's Matthew Manuel (4-2) won twice on the day. He beat defending champion Stuart Thompson of Dartmouth 9-8 and dropped Lakeshore's Andrew Gibson (1-5) 8-3.

Stuart Thompson (4-2) stole two in the ninth end to come back and beat Truro's Chad Stevens 7-3 in the late draw. Stevens (4-2) was coming off an 8-1 six-end rout of Gibson.
