SYDNEY RIVER, N.S. — A Sydney River Australian football player will look to secure his spot on Canada’s national team this weekend.
Chris Bourque of Sydney River will be in Toronto for the Australian Football League Canada national team selection camp.
Bourque, originally of Yarmouth, will be among 45 players attending the camp with goal of representing Canada at the 2020 International Cup in Australia.
The camp begins Saturday morning and includes field training, classroom session as well as skills and fitness testing.
An intrasquad game will be held Sunday as part of the final selection and assessment program.
Bourque, who has represented the country on the international stage in previous years, participated in the first selection camp in May in Edmonton and was named to the main camp shortly after.
In total, 30 players will be selected to wear the Canadian colours for next year’s event.
Other Nova Scotians attending the camp include Myles Amirault and Joah Scott, both of the Halifax Dockers.
