Yarmouth soccer teams win gold and bronze medals at Gunn Baldursson tournament

WOLFVILLE – Yarmouth Pet Valu Clippers soccer teams had a good showing at the Gunn Baldursson Memorial Soccer Tournament, which was held July 3-5 in Wolfville.The Baldursson tournament is one of the largest all-female soccer tournments in Eastern Canada with more than 115 participating teams.The Yarmouth Pet Valu Clippers under-14 team won gold at the tournament and the Yarmouth Pet Valu Clippers under-16 team brought home the bronze.

Yarmouth Pet Valu under-14 team:

 

The Yarmouth PetValu Clippers under-14 girls team brought home the gold medal from the Gunn Bauldersson Memorial soccer tournament held this past weekend in Wolfville.

• Game 1: Yarmouth 1 –  West Nova Fuels 1

Scoring for Yarmouth was Abby Legere. Game MVP was Megan Hurlburt.

• Game 2:  Yarmouth 3 – West Hants 0

Scoring for Yarmouth were Isabel Olsen, Bryndis Baldursdottir, Grace Hobbs. Game MVP was Sam Surette.

• Game 3: Yarmouth 5 – Porters Lake 0

Scoring for Yarmouth were Grace Hobbs (3) Saige Breton and Abby Legere. Game MVP was Abby Legere.

• Game 4, semi finals: Yarmouth 5 – West Nova Fuels 2

Scoring for Yarmouth was Saige Breton (2), Grace Hobbs (2) and Abby Legere. MVPs were Saige Breton and Grace Hobbs.

• In the championship game Yarmouth defeated Upper County in a close game with a final score of 2-1. Scoring for Yarmouth were Saige Breton. and Abby Legere. The Hustle Award went to Brenna Verran.

Samantha Nelson was in net for all the weekend games.

 

Yarmouth Pet Valu under-16 team:

The Yarmouth Pet Valu Clippers under-16 girls soccer team won the bronze medal at the Gunn Baldursson Memorial Tournament, which was held July 3-5.

The Yarmouth team went undefeated during the round robin portion of the tournament.

In their first game of the tournament on Friday, July 3, Yarmouth had a 1-0 win over Halifax Dunbrack Soccer Club.

In game two on Saturday, July 4, Yarmouth defeated East Kings 4-1.

In their third game of the round robin later that day, Yarmouth had a 2-0 win over Scotia.

The Clippers were edged out by Northern Nova United 1-0 in the semi-final, which bumped the Yarmouth team to the consolation match.

In the bronze medal game Yarmouth blanked Upper County 1-0 for the win.
