YARMOUTH, N.S. – It was a golden finish for the Scotiabank Western Riptide Peewee A girls and a bronze finish for the bantam Riptide team at this past weekend’s Chicks with Sticks tournament.
GOLD FINISH
The Scotiabank Western Riptide Peewee A girls were among the seven teams – peewee and bantam – to compete in the 11th annual Chicks with Sticks tournament, held in Yarmouth Oct. 26-28.
They local peewee team had a tie and three wins in their round robin games, which earned them a spot in the goal medal game.
The Riptide played Metro West Force Black in the final game. Riptide jumped out to a 2-0 win in the first period. Towards the end of the second period Metro scored two quick goals close together to tie the score 2-2. The Riptide regained the 3-2 lead, scoring late in the second period, not long after Metro had tied the score.
The third period remained a scoreless contest for both teams until Riptide scored with 1:32 left in the game to pull ahead 4-2, giving them the gold medal finish.

BRONZE FINISH
The Yarmouth Scotiabank White Western Riptide Female Bantam A team started the weekend by winning all three of their games in the round robin. On Friday the defeated Metro West Force Blue 2-1. Goals were scored by Karli MacDonald and Carly Kini with assists by Adele Comeau and Madison Cushing. Later that day they beat Metro West Force White 2-0. Goals that game were scored by Jada MacKinnon and Chloe Swaine with an assist by Ocean Sears.
On Saturday they completed the round robin beating Metro West Force Red 2-1. Karli MacDonald and Carly Kini each had a goal. Jada Mackinnon had two assists and Madison Cushing had one assist. The girls then faced Metro West Force White in the semi-finals and had a disappointing 2-1 loss. Kari MacDonald scored the lone goal with Chloe Swaine and Jada MacKinnon having each having an assist.
On Sunday the team played Metro West Force White in the bronze medal game and played hard to win 2-1. Goals scored by Carly Kini and Ocean Sears with assists by Madison Cushing, Adele Comeau and Courtney Fitzgerald. Sophie Thimot was in net for all games.
