Tri-county basketball teams placed second and fourth in the Steve Brewer memorial tournament for high school girls held Dec. 8-9 at Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School.
The Shelburne Rebels – who kicked off the tournament Friday by winning a tight one against the host YCMHS Vikings – made it to the event’s championship game Saturday, only to fall to Park View 66-18.
Also on Saturday afternoon, Yarmouth lost to West Kings 66-64 in the game that determined third and fourth place in the six-team tournament.
Park View’s victory in the title game capped off a 3-0 tournament for the Bridgewater team, which on Friday downed West Kings 65-56 and Northeast Kings Education Centre 74-43.
Yarmouth’s Hannah Saulnier and Shelburne’s Mackenzie Smith were named tournament all-stars.
The following is a look at tournament games involving the two tri-county entries, Yarmouth and Shelburne:
FRIDAY, DEC. 8
Shelburne 62 – Yarmouth 59
Mackenzie Smith led the Rebels with 43 points. She was named her team’s player of the game. Teammate Rebecca Deinstadt, who had 10 points, received her team’s hustle award.
Hannah Saulnier led Yarmouth scorers with 18 points and Samantha Nelson had 12.
Emma Corporon was Yarmouth’s player of the game and teammate Sydney Barr got the hustle award.
Yarmouth 62 – Middleton 42
Hannah Saulnier and Janelle Brewer led YCMHS scorers, each with 15 points. Saulnier was player of the game and Brewer got the hustle award.
SATURDAY, DEC. 9
Shelburne 58 – Middleton 51
Mackenzie Smith led the Rebels with 31 points and Maya Trevors had 11 points. Alexa Jacklyn was Shelburne’s player of the game and teammate Trevors got the hustle award.
West Kings 66 – Yarmouth 64
Hannah Saulnier scored 18 points, Samantha Nelson (player of the game) had 12 and Sydney Barr 11. Yarmouth hustle award went to Summer Pitman.
Park View 66 – Shelburne 18
Smith led the Rebels with nine points in the tournament’s title game. Deinstadt was Shelburne’s player of the game and Jacklyn got the Rebels’ hustle award.
