SYDNEY, N.S. — The Riverview Red Sox were defeated 16-8 by the Horton Griffins in the final of the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Division 1 baseball tournament that concluded Sunday at Susan McEachern Memorial Ball Park.
Riverview advanced to the final with a 7-3 semifinal victory over the host Glace Bay Panthers, while Horton bested the C.P. Allen Cheetahs of Bedford in the other semifinal, 2-1.
In round-robin play on Saturday, Glace Bay defeated the Northumberland Nighthawks of Alma, 12-4, but lost 6-5 to Horton. Riverview was clipped by C.P. Allen 2-1 but rebounded with a 13-4 win over the Park View Panthers of Bridgewater.
Other action saw Northumberland defeat Horton 7-1 and C.P. Allen best Park View 7-1 in a game called after five innings due to darkness.
