Three Cape Breton schools medal at NSSAF volleyball provincial championships

Riverview, Inverness Academy and École NDA take home volleyball medals

SYDNEY, N.S. —

Three Cape Breton high schools were victorious in capturing medals at the recent Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation volleyball provincial championships. 

Riverview High School captured the Division 1 girls’ bronze medal with 30-28, 25-23 wins over Horton High School of Wolfville at Memorial High School in Sydney Mines. 

The Royals posted a 2-1 record in the round robin, before losing to the Cobequid Educational Centre of Truro. 

Meanwhile, in the Division 3 girls’ action in Pomquet, Inverness Academy downed Hants North of Kennetcook 25-21, 24-26 and 15-8 to win the provincial title. École NDA of Cheticamp defeated Pomquet 25-20, 25-23 in the bronze medal contest. 

In the Division 2 boys’ tournament in Middleton, Cape Breton Highlands Education Centre/Academy of Terre Noire finished fifth place, while Dalbrae Academy of Mabou ranked in sixth place. 
Cape Breton Highlands was defeated in the round robin by Middleton 25-13, 25-11, and South Colchester 25-9, 25-8. 

As for Dalbrae, they posted a 25-18, 25-21 loss to Annapolis West Education Centre, before dropping a 25-17, 25-11 decision to Pomquet. 

In Division 2 girls’ action in Port Hawkesbury, Strait Area Education Centre and Richmond Academy finished in fifth and sixth place respectively. Score results were not available. 

NSSAF PROVINCIAL VOLLEYBALL RESULTS:
- Division 1 Girls – Riverview High School (Bronze medal)
- Division 2 Boys – Cape Breton Highlands Education Centre/Academy (5th) and Dalbrae Academy (6th)
- Division 2 Girls – Strait Area Education Recreation Centre (5th) and Richmond Academy (6th)
- Division 3 Girls – Inverness Academy (Gold medal) and École NDA (Bronze medal)
