The Souwest Bulldogs made it to the title game of the under-18 juvenile boys AAA basketball provincials in Dartmouth, where they lost to the Pictou County Lightning 80-72.
Top scorer and player of the game for the Bulldogs was Noah Wilcox. Teammate Dylan Landry had 18 points in the title game and was named a tournament all-star.
The Bulldogs began the April 5-7 tournament by defeating the Shelburne Kings 87-59 Friday night. Wilcox had 21 points for the winners in this one and Joel Cull had 17. Randall Fells was the Bulldogs’ player of the game.
On Saturday morning the Bulldogs lost to Pictou County Lightning 88-70. Landry was player of the game and top scorer with 31 points. Wilcox had 16.
Later Saturday afternoon, the Bulldogs clinched their spot in the gold-medal game by defeating Cumberland Classics 75-27. Josh Muise was the leading scorer with 21 points and Landry had 17.
The title contest was played the following day, the Bulldogs falling to the Lightning but finishing with silver.
Souwest coach Joel Durling said he was pleased with the team’s performance.
“They did well,” he said. “They worked hard.”
