YARMOUTH, N.S. – Yarmouth County Minor Hockey results...


PEEWEE A

The Yarmouth GPK Refrigeration PeeWee A Mariners won their season opener against the Clare-Digby Ravens. Connor Pothier scored the lone goal of the game 12:45 into the second period, with assists from Blake Newell and Lucas Cottreau. Goalie Brady Saulnier stopped all shots for his first shutout of the season.


ATOM AA

The Yarmouth Atom AA Mariners opened their season at the Mariners Centre on Oct. 13 with a 4-2 loss against Pictou Red. Marcel Jacquard had two goals for Yarmouth and Colby d'Eon had one assist. Between the pipes was Noah Muise.

On Oct. 14 the Yarmouth Atom AA Mariners played to a 3-3 tie against Pictou Red here at home. Parker LeBlanc registered 2 goals and Lexx d'Entremont added another goal. Sawyer Kristensen, Max Gates, and Brady Newell each had 1 assist. In goal was Noah Muise.


BANTAM AA

Wade’s Wire Traps Bantam AA Yarmouth Mariners hosted the Antigonish Bulldogs this past weekend to begin league play in the Nova Scotia Mainland Hockey League.

On Oct. 13 Yarmouth defeated Antigonish 5-3. Goal scorers were Owen Penney with three goals and Orren Hatfield with two. Assists went to Jacob Matthews, Spencer Surette, Connor Prouty and Michel Comeau.

On the morning of Oct. 14 Yarmouth won again 9-1. Spencer Surette had three goals, Michel Comeau had a pair and singles went to Cameron Kerr, Jory Stewart, Jaden Kerr and Connor Prouty. Orren Hatfield, Connor Prouty and Spencer Surette all had 2 assists while Seamus d’Entremont, Krew Goodwin, Owen Penney, Jory Stewart, Jacob Matthews and Ben LeBlanc each had one.

Izaac Deveau was in net for both wins.

This weekend the Wade’s Wire Trap Mariners will host the Truro Bearcats.


BANTAM A

Bantam A Exhibition game action between Nova's Finest Fisheries Mariners and Clare was held on Saturday, Oct. 13th at the Clare Arena with the Mariners winning 8-5.

Dalton Sears scored 3 times, Chandler LeBlanc scored twice, with Dylan Hatfield, Lucas d’Entremont and Carson d’Eon eaching scoring once for the Mariners. Tavon Gabriel was in net for Yarmouth.

(Goal scorers for Clare were not available.)

In exhibition play between Nova's Finest Fisheries Mariners and South Shore on Oct. 14 in Bridgewater, it was a 4-1 for South Shore with Tyler Macleod of the Mariners scoring the team’s goal. Braden Hipson was in net for Mariners.


BANTAM B

The Bantam B Mariners took to the ice on Sunday, Oct. 14 for their 1st game of the season against South Shore. The Mariners came out on top with an 11-4 win.  Scoring for Yarmouth were Landon Watkins with 5 goals, Wyatt Nickerson, Daniel Kenney, Landon Pothier who was filling in for an injured Conner Fitzgerald, AJ Deveau with 2 goals and Isaac Tunnicliff with a goal.  Assists came from Jacob Wyman, AJ Deveau, Tyler Adams,Blake Lyons, Daniel Kenney and Jesse Amiro


PEEWEE B

The Charlesville Fisheries Peewee B Mariners travelled to Bridgewater on Oct. 13 for a game against South Shore, defeating them 10-2. In net for the Mariners was Miguel Surette. Scoring for the Mariners were Brody Smith (2), Blake Fish (2), Jack d'Entremont (2) and Luke Leblanc, Maddox d'Entremont, Liam Surette and Charlie Gosling all with one. Assists went to Rogan Pittman, Brody Smith, Caleum Hines, Taylor Goodwin, Cohen Warner, Maddox d’Entremont, Gabriel Hideib, Luke LeBlanc, Blake Fish, Charlie Gosling, Dominick Hazelton, Jacques Surette and Mason Legere.


PEEWEE A GIRLS

The Yarmouth Scotiabank Western Riptide white peewee A girls team were on the road this past weekend for three games. The first game was a 4-0 win against Metro East Inferno red. Renée Olsen and Marissa Fevens each had 2 goals. The assists went to Allie Dugas, Kalli Goreham and Renée Olsen. Chloe Surette was in net.

The second game was a 6-1 win against Metro West Force Red. Renée Olsen and Isabel Doucette each had 2 goals with Katie Atkinson and Mercedes Melanson each scoring one. Assists went to Kalli Goreham, Renée Olsen, Marissa Fevens and Alyssa Boudreau-Poole. Chloe Surette was in net.

The third game was a 5-1 win against Scotiabank Western Riptide Green. Renée Olsen had 2 goals and Marissa Fevens, Isabel Doucette and Brooke d’Eon each had one. Assists went to Alyssa Boudreau-Poole, Issabelle d’Entremont and Kiersten Kenney. Chloe Surette was in net.


BANTAM A GIRLS

The Yarmouth Scotiabank Western Riptide White Bantam A Girls team played their first two games of the season on the road last weekend. On Oct. 13 they had a 3-0 win over Metro West Force White. Karli MacDonald had two goals with the other goal being scored by Madison Cushing. Brandee Goodwin and Ocean Sears each had an assist. On Oct. 14 they played Metro East Inferno Gold and won 1-0. Goal was scored by Carly Kini with the assist from Karli MacDonald. Sophie Thimot was in net for both games.


PEEWEE AAA MARINERS CAPTURE SILVER AT JORDAN BOYD MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT

Yarmouth Peewee AAA Chris Construction Mariners came home had a second-place finish at the Jordan Boyd Memorial tournament over the Thanksgiving weekend in Bedford, posting a 4-2 record.

The Yarmouth squad opened their tournament with a come-from-behind 3-1 decision over the Sackville Flyers. Jared Pitman, Sammy Cochrane and Russell Pinksen scored for the victors. Dominic Cottreau made some key saves to preserve the win between the pipes.
​Yarmouth dropped their second contest of the tournament with a 4-3 shootout loss to the NB East Hawks. Jessica MacKinnon, Sam Hope, and Dakota Ryer dented the twine for the Mariners.
​Up next, the Mariners defeated the Northwest Bulls by a score of 6-5. Jessica MacKinnon paced the attack with three goals, while Jared Pitman, Koen Shand, and Sam Hope each added a single marker. Sawyer Longmire and Max Darcy picked up a pair of assists each.
​The last game of the round robin saw the Yarmouth squad edge the Chebucto Atlantics 3-2 in a shootout, claiming first place in their division. Jared Pitman had the shootout winner as well as a goal in regulation, with Jessica MacKinnon adding the other. Cohen Stoddard picked up the win in goal.
​It was a battle to remember in semi-final action as the Mariners nipped the Halifax Hawks 5-4 in the fifth overtime period. Jessica MacKinnon fired the winner, Jared Pitman had two goals, while Sam Hope and Jordan Apostolofski added one each.
​Unfortunately for the Mariners, the weekend ended with a disappointing 10-0 decision to the Tasa Ducks in the championship game. A tired Yarmouth team could not match the high-flying energy of the heavily favoured Ducks squad.

It was a great weekend of hockey to start the season, with plenty of motivation and goals to strive for going forward, said the coaching staff. This past weekend the Mariners hosted the Acadia Axemen for two exhibition games.
